How to Build Your Brand Online

Building your brand online has become essential to increasing its visibility, familiarity and ultimately, business. It’s important, though, to not only be present online, but also to differentiate yourself from your peers. There are several ways to distribute information about your brand and its offerings online, and get the most out of doing so:
- Define the Vision: Figure out exactly what you’re offering and the personality you want to attach to your brand. Odds are you’re not going to be successful conveying yourself to others if you can’t convey the notion to yourself.
- Build a Website: Get your own domain and hosting, and use this as a hub to all your online activity. This is the key portal for establishing who you are, what you do and why you’re unique.
- Be Consistent in Presentation: A significant aspect of branding is creating a consistent image. This can mean your logo, colors, taglines, etc. You want your consumer to be able to correlate their feelings about your brand from every channel.
- Create Social Network Profiles: At the very least, you should be active on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, along with any other niche site relevant to your profession.
- Engage: It’s important to relay a specific message to your consumers. Whether you do this through social media or a verbal presentation, they key is be consistently engaging with others.
- Listen to Your Consumers: It’s vital to know what is being said about your business. If you’re on top of the conversations surrounding your brand, you’re able to provide ample customer service (and thus, reputation management) by directly addressing any dilemmas that may arise.
- Define Your Target Market: If you’re a great sales person, but directing your efforts to the wrong audience, you’re not going to produce fruitful results. Identify your audience, whether it by gender, age, location or any other demographic.
- Observe Your Competition: Knowing what’s going on around you is a great way to observe various things you should and shouldn’t do. It also helps you define yourself and what sets your apart from, and hopefully makes you more valuable than, your peers.
- Create and Provide Relevant Content: Share information that aligns with your business. Educating a future consumer is a great way to establish trust and credibility around your brand. Original content is preferable, but with social media, it’s easy to share content that’s relevant to your brand even if you yourself didn’t actually create it.
- Express Your Value: Provide valuable information about whatever your niche is. Share what you know and what/how you’ve learned from your immersion in your industry. You’ll build respect around your brand when you’re providing value.
